  • Developed and directed the Oregon rural hospital Lean Transformation Collaborative. Within 7 months of training 4 hospitals reduced waste by 35% and saved over $300,000.00.
  • Increased The Doctors Company/Northwest Physicians Patient Safety Workshop satisfaction scores by 75%. Achieved by developing a closed claims analysis format emphasizing physician participation in the identification of medical errors and safety measures to prevent these errors.
  • In a 500 bed hospital in western Oregon:
    1. Overhauled the newborn assessment scoring system from one based on time to one based on clinical outcomes using RN led chart audits assessing critical thinking skills. Newborn assessment success rates went from an average of 80% to 99.9% in 2 months.
    2. Utilized LEAN thinking to 5S (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) the mother-baby unit. Patient care items were put in the patient rooms to reduce time walking to supply rooms. This action alone saved each nurse 91 minutes per 8 hour shift of non-value-added time running for supplies and increased the amount of time for patient care at the bedside.
    3. Decreased the number of stocking carts in the unit from 6 to 3 resulting in a $1200.00/month inventory savings for the unit.
    4. Increased the efficiency of the discharge process using LEAN principles saving the hospital >$250,000.00 per year in one unit.
